Christmas Eve Services and Snow

Christmas Eve Time Change
Ebenezer's Christmas Eve Service will begin at 6:30pm (instead of 6:00 as originally planned). Pastor Travis will need to leave immediately following the service in order to get to William Watters for their 8:00pm Christmas Eve Service.


The 11:oopm Christmas Eve Combined Service will be held at Ebenezer.

Snow Closing Policy

If Pastor Travis thinks that the roads are passable Sunday morning and the parking lots are usable, we will have services. However, please consider your own circumstances (vehicle, distance, size of roads, capacity to deal with unexpected and/or weather related crises, etc.) when choosing whether or not to make the trip in to church on Sunday.

Please do not feel that you HAVE TO come because we are having services, even if you are paid staff - rely instead on your own judgement - a liberal leave policy will be in effect in any marginal weather related circumstance.

OCTOBER HAPPENINGS

CHANGE OF LOCATION due to really yucky weather! Youth Night at the Grove - Saturday, October 17th - The concert and party will now be held at Centre UMC.

SPECIAL OFFERING - Sunday, October 18th - Our bishop has asked us to contribute $148 toward the hope fund - so we will be taking a special offering toward this end Sunday. The Hope fund is targetted to three areas: reconstruction of the gulf region, church construction and supplies for Zimbabwe, and Aids relief.

Charge Conference -Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00pm at Ebenezer UMC.

Prayer Group meets on Tuesdays at 7:00pm

Educational Opportunities this Fall

School of Christian Growth:
5 weeks of study in various areas. Want to learn to be a lay speaker, or to become certified as a lay speaker? How about learning how the various parts of the Bible connect, or how to speak about truth in an age of confusion? 4 courses will be offered concurrently from September 28 at 7 until October 26 from 7 to 9 pm weekly at William Watters Memorial. Courses are taught by local clergy. Dinners provided at no charge for all who are interested from 6:30-7:00 each Monday.
Registration forms are available in the back of the sanctuary. Registration is $10 before September 14, $15 afterward.

Disciple 1 Study
This intensive Biblical survey will include the reading of about 70% of the Bible over 34 weeks. Weekly meetings of 2.5 hours allow us to share together what God is saying to us through our study, and to determine how God's will for us is being revealed through our study.
Currently there are two of us who have expressed interest. Without a class of 8, we will not be able to offer this study this year.
Please contact Pastor Travis on or before September 13th at that time, we will determine whether or not we can begin our study this fall.

Confirmation classes to begin in January
Interested candidates who are in 8th grade or older please contact Pastor Travis in September so we can get ourselves organized for a cooperative parish confirmation class taught by Pastors Travis and Glen.


Stewardship:
Led by Rick Burcham, the class will be on Tuesday nights at WWM, starting Sept. 8th and ending on Oct. 13th. It is only 6 weeks. We will start at 7:30 and no matter what we will end no later than 9:00. You are welcome to come @ 7:00 and join the prayer group.
Our study will involve reviewing scripture so please bring your bibles.
Our study will be based on a book by Randy Alcorn (given to me by Ray), a reference guide from Crown Financial Ministries and a monthly newsletter from Sound Mind Investing I've received for the last 20 years.
My hope is we will learn what God says about how we are use our finances, some practical advice about getting a handle on our finances and learn some things about how we can increase our resources so that our giving can increase.
In preparation for our first gathering please read and reflect on the following 2 pieces of scripture:
Matthew 13:44
Luke 3: 7-14
Please jot down what you expect to get out of this class and what questions you have about finances and the bible. Please send me an email and I''ll do my best to address these in this class.
Lastly, please pray that God will help me as I put the lessons together and ask God why He put it on your heart to attend.

The Diaper Drive is in full swing and Jarrettsville UMC is in the lead. Please bring those diapers in in August! It supports Birthright of Bel Air.

SEPTEMBER
September 12 - Ebenezer UMC will have a Yard Sale and Breakfast. Start saving your odds and ends for the yard sale. You can purchase a table or donate your items to the church to sell. See Barbara Duvall for a table.

School of Christian Growth will be held the last Sunday in September and all Sundays in October. More details to come.

See Grace Glock at Ebenezer if you are interested in carpooling to Washington DC to see the monuments and/or museums in September or October.

Spaghetti Dinner

The spaghetti dinner was a great success. Thanks to all who helped and to all who came for dinner!

William Watters is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, June 27th - 3:30pm - 7pm. Cost is $7 per person.

William Watters Annual Car Show

Our annual Car Show was canceled due to rain. It is rescheduled for Saturday, August 8th. Mark Your Calendars for this fun event.

Summer at William Watters

FARMER'S Market at William Watters EVERY SATURDAY now - end of September 8:30-11:00 a.m. Providing local agriculture products to the community.

Summer Mission Project – Together with Ebenezer and Jarrettsville UMCs, we will be collecting diapers, formula, bottles, receiving blankets, etc for the crisis pregnancy center in Bel Air. A friendly competition between our three churches will give bragging rights to the most generous congregation!
